♦ ♀ Spottedfern. ThunderClan Medicine Cat dark tortoiseshell she-cat ♦ [/sup] The day had begun a bit rainy for Greenleaf, and the petals of green undergrowth and flowers clung to raindrops that dappled their leaves. As the sun raced into the sky most of the rain had begun to dry up and evaporate leaving ThunderClan with a cool temperature and slightly moist ground. It was during this time of sunhigh that a specific tortoiseshell she-cat padded out of the camp into the surrounding forest. She was on a mission, at least in her mind she was; restocking was no mere joke to her.
Spottedfern continued into ThunderClan's territory, ducking under low branches. As she lowered herself under an oak tree, she flung forward - tripping on the tree's raised roots. She collided with the ground with a loud THUD, sending many dust particles and bugs up into the air. Cringing, her teeth clenched as she let out a yowl of pain:
"Ow…," she murmured as she felt a bit of pain from the impact. It didn't last for long as she raised herself back up an quickly did a rough grooming job. She shook her wispy fur to get out some of the dust as she began to continue on her journey.
As she continued, she scolded herself to be more aware of her surroundings. Spottedfern had always been quite clumsy, and even though she attempted to gain some personal stability, she never truly would stop such painful habits. Regardless, she threw her head up into the air, acting as if nothing had happened; of course until a branch whacked her in the face.
'Karma,' she thought to herself with a sigh as she pawed at her nose which stung by now. Usually she didn't try to act so high-and-mighty, and this was exactly why. Spottedfern decided to keep her posture simple, so as to not anger StarClan (which of course wasn't who flung the branch at her, but superstitious habits never die).
Finally she had made it to her destination. She let out a comforting purr, and began to gather up several stray leaves of a strange plant.
"Oh Chamomile, you are the best," she meowed, getting several leaves in her mouth. Suddenly she froze, contemplating. This wasn't chamomile. She spit out the leaves, staring at them as if she were blind. "No, you're not chamomile! Oh, Rats, what are you…," the tortie she-cat struggled with her mind as she attempted to figure out what this herb was - her memory was terribly, despite being so young.

Kestrelclaw ThunderClan Deputy Big ears flicked as they heard mumbled words off to her side, and a brown head lifted as pale green eyes looked around accusingly. The she-cat was not fond of anything that interrupted her hunting, or even worse, scared away her prey. She viewed anything that interfered with serving the clan as a nuisance, and besides her position as deputy, Kestrelclaw considered hunting as serving the clan. However, she was close enough to the mouse, for it foraged just around the bush, to catch it, and she dismissed the mumbling, for she would deal with it later. Slowly inching around the obstacle, brown paws revealed sharp claws as the deputy prepared to pounce. Straight ahead of her, the mouse dug in the dirt. Kestrelclaw bunched up her muscles and with ease, caught and killed the mouse. Picking up her prize, the she-cat turned in the direction from which she had heard the noise. Striding in that direction, she moved around a tree and found the culprit.
Whatever she had expected, Kestrelclaw had not thought of the medicine cat mumbling to herself, trying to identify herbs. She shook her head in disgust, still standing in the shadow of a tree. ThunderClan was a strong clan, and they could not have a medicine cat who did not know her herbs. From the sound of it, Spottedfern had mixed up the leaves with chamomile. Though she had doubts about it, Kestrelclaw thought that chamomile was used to calm cats, but she was not a medicine cat, so she could not be sure. However, the she-cat took a moment to bask in the irony of the situation, if her hunch was correct. Obviously Spottedfern was getting worked up about something that was supposed to help calm cats. But her humor at the irony did not last long when Kestrelclaw realized that the other feline could not even identify the plant she had so foolishly picked up. What if it was poisonous? Even though Spottedfern, right now at least, was not the ideal medicine cat, she was the only one ThunderClan had.
Stepping out of the shadows, Kestrelclaw showed herself, still carrying the limp mouse. She dropped it at her paws, looking up at Spottedfern. The deputy kept her face calm, not showing her negative thoughts. "Hello, Spottedfern," Kestrelclaw meowed. "Out collecting herbs, I see. Have you found everything you need?" Possibly considered cruel, but the she-cat knew that she was not the nicest cat, and her clan should know that too. Or learn it, if they did not know.

Shatterpelt cursed herself once more as she stumbled over her huge paws, for what seemed like the fiftieth time that day. She was out hunting for the clan, doing her best to feed her clan. Although she wasn't technically assigned for a patrol, she didn't have anything better to do with her free time currently. The mouse she had been chasing was now shooting off under the brush of Thunderclan territory, pausing on the edge of a tree trunk and looking back, as if mocking the huge gray and black she-cat. Shatterpelt yearned to hiss as the stupid brown mouse, but merely bit her tongue. If all the prey hadn't been scared away by her tramping through the forest, her hissing would certainly do it. She huffed quietly instead, praying to Starclan that no one had seen her fumbling around to catch a simple mouse. Hunting was certainly not Shatterpelt's strong suit. She padded forward, under the thick tree branches, shoving aside fern and bramble alike. Light mewing trailed on the wind, like a whisper. Kestrelclaw's mew? Shatterpelt padded toward the she-cat's voice. " Hey Kestrelclaw. Are you on patrol or out alone? I'm bored to death and if you're not busy I'd love to do some battle training...Oh hey Spottedfern. Do you need some help carrying herbs?" mewed Shatterpelt.

Kestrelclaw ThunderClan Deputy If Kestrelclaw had had any guilt about her words to the medicine cat, it vanished as the arrival of a second cat distracted her. The cat's scent told her that the newcomer was ThunderClan, of course, and she recognized the warrior. At 29 moons, the deputy was only half a year the she-cat's senior, despite her higher rank in the clan. Kestrelclaw did not have any problems with Shatterpelt; the warrior worked hard and took clan work seriously, without joking around or slacking off. ThunderClan could use more of those kinds of cats, for they made good warriors, and good warriors made a clan strong.
The deputy's opinion of Shatterpelt was only strengthened when the she-cat spoke. Even now, out hunting and coming upon her medicine cat and deputy, she wanted to practice fighting. Kestrelclaw's attention had been focused soley on the pitiful Spottedfern, so she would not have known that the warrior was around, though in hindsight that was a mistake. One should always know one's surroundings; they would not be surprised as easily. But the past was the past, and her point was that Shatterpelt could have turned around and not shown herself, and Kestrelclaw would not have known.
Dipping her head to the warrior, the she-cat greeted her politely, "Hello, Shatterpelt. I was just hunting alone and came upon Spottedfern, here, collecting herbs for the stores. She gestured with her tail to the dead mouse at her paws. "Just before you came, I'd asked her if she had everything she needed, but she has not really had a chance to respond. And yes, I have time to practice fighting."

" Great!" Shatterpelt let out a purr of content, her frustration over missing her prey melting off her like snow in the green leaf. Her fluffy gray and black tail flicked happily overhead, dusting Shatterpelt's head in a bit of dirt. She flicked her ears roughly, looking back over to Spottedfern. " Spottedfern, why don't we help you carry your herbs back to the medicine den and then you can come train with us? Medicine cats need to know how to fight too, and I don't think I've seen you in the training hollow recently. Even if everything is calm now, we all know it won't last for very long! Besides, I know medicine cats tend to fight a bit differently from normal warriors, and I'd love to test my moves against yours." Shatterpelt meowed cheerfully. It was true-a battle could easily break out at any time. Of course, practice wasn't the only reason Shatterpelt asked Spottedfern to join them. Most of the Clan was aware that Spottedfern wasn't the medicine cat ever-not even close, which was why, when she could, Shatterpelt tried to give Spottedfern extra training skill. Spottedfern was rather frail, especially for such a young cat. With her little fighting skill, she could very easily be killed if a battle broke out. While she wasn't a great medicine cat she was the only one Thunderclan had, which made her an invaluable member to them. If she died, they'd be lost.

♦ ♀ Spottedfern. ThunderClan Medicine Cat dark tortoiseshell she-cat ♦ [/size] The dark tortoiseshell she-cat jumped as a cat entered her vision. She had been so deep in her thoughts that she hadn't noticed a scent or anything until Kestrelclaw had spoken to her. Feeling flabbergasted and embarrassed all at once, she dropped the leaves as if they'd be nothing. She hated when the Clan caught her in a moment of despair.
"Ello, Kestrel," she meowed lightly, her tone slightly mangled. Yet another habit of hers was to call cats by their first name-half. Mind you, this could get quite confusing when there was more than one of the same. "Oh, y-yes, just about….," she finished off, eyes dropping to glance at the plants around her. She offered the deputy one of her dumb-looking smiles, but figured she wouldn't care much anyhow. Kestrelclaw was a tough cat who didn't care much for Spottedfern's nonsense (and rightly so, mind you).
The she-cat flinched again as another cat appeared through some undergrowth - this time it was Shatterpelt. Spottedfern offered her a simple bow of the head in greeting. Shatterpelt was a rather sweet cat, as far as Spottedfern could remember, and she didn't mind having her around (not that she minded Kestrelclaw, of course).
"Oh, s-sure!" she meowed, excitement entering her tone. She wasn't much of a fighter at all - partially the reason she became a medicine cat. But practicing could be good for the young she-cat. Heaven knows she would need lots of it.
She pointed her nose to a corner a foxtail's length away. Surprising enough for her, she had gathered quite a bit of herbs (the actual ones, too) which had been stashed away in a corner. Although she failed at her attempt to find chamomile, embarrassing for her to admit, there was a stick with cobwebs wrapped around it, some juniper berries, and some other strange looking leaves. At least she had got something done right today.
"I just have a few things over here, if you'd care to help," her light-hearted meow was back as she timidly walked over and picked up a few leaves in her maw to take back with her. She left the "chamomile" leaves behind - at least she was smart enough to do that!

Kestrelclaw ThunderClan Deputy Flicking the tip of her tail slightly in irritation, Kestrelclaw listened silently as Shatterpelt volunteered both of them in helping Spottedfern carry herbs back. Though she was not above helping a clan member, the deputy also had prey to carry back other than the one mouse that lay still at her paws. Besides, if she carried herbs and prey, some herb might contaminate the prey. Since she herself was not a medicine cat, Kestrelclaw had no idea if this could actually happen, but she did not want to take the risk. Nor did she want to be demoted to 'herb-carrier'. However, the rest of Shatterpelt's words rang true, and in her mind, Kestrelclaw agreed, only showing it by dipping her head slightly. Medicine cats did tend to fight with a different style, and it would be good practice for all of them to spar. The other she-cat appeared excited at the prospect as she agreed to join them.
Pale eyes moved to Spottedfern as she spoke before turning to look at the pile of herbs that she had collected. Kestrelclaw did not think that the pile was large enough to have to enlist three cats to carry it back to camp, and she voiced her opinion, politely, of course. "I'd help, except that I also have prey to carry back. If there are too many herbs for two cats to carry, I'll return and help, but otherwise..." She let her voice trail off as green orbs surveyed the two cats. Kestrelclaw really would return to help if need be, but she knew that she could not carry herbs as well as a few dead mice and a decent-sized vole. Picking up the mouse by its tail, she let the body hang below her jaws. Feeling it swing slightly, she watched Spottedfern pick up some leaves in her own mouth, waiting to hear their response.

Shatterpelt's tail dipped slightly in embarrassment. Of course she shouldn't have bossed the deputy around like that! Plus, Kestrelclaw made a valid point- she certainly shouldn't be carrying herbs and prey together, even if she did have enough room for it. Shatterpelt frowned, storing the idea in the back of her head so she wouldn't make the same mistake again. " Sorry Kestrelclaw it didn't even come into my mind! I'm sure Spottedfern and I can manage these, there aren't too many. I'll take the cobwebs and berries, and Spottedfern you can take the remaining leaves so its split up nicely. Once we leave these in the medicine den and sort them away, we can meet you in the training hollow once you drop off your prey Kestrelclaw. That way you have time for any duties you need to get done. If that's alright with you two I mean..." meowed Shatterpelt, her pelt smoothing out with a ripple. She was doing her best not to annoy Kestrelclaw-she had noticed the slight flick of annoyance earlier and was uneager to upset her deputy. Her first loyalty was always to her leader and deputy; after Starclan that is, and she would never purposely bother any of them. She gently picked up the stick of cobwebs in her mouth, while wrapping the pile of juniper berries in a large leaf and tucking it under her neck to hold. She made a mumbled noise, as if she were trying to say something. Realizing that there was no way she could talk around the stick she simply nodded her head towards the camp, looking at the two cats-both of higher rank than her- expectantly, waiting for a response.
